High winds cause delays at World Aerobatic Championships

DENISON, TEXAS -- The wind put a damper on day one of the World Aerobatic Championships today.

The world's best aerobatic pilots, from 17 countries, were supposed to take off and compete today, but their planes didn't leave the runway due to high winds.

It wasn't until around 3 this afternoon that the aerobatic pilots got to fly.

It's estimated that the 10-day championships will bring in a million dollars to the local economy. The delays could mean at least one more night in local hotel rooms.

The pilots compete every day from now through the finals on October 19th, beginning around 8 a.m. each day.
