Hugo gymnastics coach convicted of raping young female student

CHOCTAW CO., OK - A former Hugo private gymnastics teacher on trial for having sex with a young female student learned his fate Thursday, as the jury reached a verdict.

After three hours of deliberation, a Choctaw County jury found Sandro Ramos guilty of first degree rape, and four counts of lew molestation.

Eight months ago Ramos waived at our cameras, but Thursday, the now convicted rapist held his face in his hands as the jury delivered a guilty verdict.

The former Hugo private gymnastics coach was silent as he left the courtroom.

"We still believe that Sandro is an innocent man. Now, there are no winners in this case, only losers," said Ramos' defense attorney Alan Perry.

But Assistant district attorney Emily Herron says the guilty verdict is a win for Choctaw County, and Ramos' victims.

"When the case first got started it was just kind of discovered on accident, we didn't have a victim that was very cooperative at first, and the case just kind of developed. We ended up finding another victim in South Carolina where the defendant had another gym," said Herron.

In October of last year, the then 39 year old Ramos was arrested for having sex with one of his 12 year old students.

Choctaw County undersheriff Larry Hendrix says through their investigation they found the claims to be true, "She was reluctant at first. I think that she felt that she could have been in love with Mr. Ramos."

Authorities say Ramos was manipulative, and Herron says he groomed his young victims so they wouldn't speak out. She says because he's been all over the world, we may never know if he has other victims out there, but now he is where he belongs.

The jury recommended a life sentence for the rape charge, and 10 years for each count of lewd molestation, those sentences to run consecutively.

Ramos' sentencing is set for October 7th. He faces additional charges in South Carolina.
