Human remains found in Hugo

HUGO, OK -- Hugo police say, what appears to be human skeleton remains were found Wednesday in a shed just three blocks South of the Police Station.

Anne Driggers lives less than a mile away, and says she's just one of several concerned residents looking for answers.

"It's very scary knowing that that happened here in Hugo," said Driggers.

Hugo Police Chief Jon Bozeman says people who were cleaning up the empty lot off of South Broadway and Kiamichi found the bones Wednesday. He says he immediately called the OSBI out to help in the investigation.

"The remains that have been found appears to be that of a human skeleton and a few bones and they have been sent to the medical examiner in Tulsa to be identified and that's about all of the information we have on it right now," said Bozeman.

Bozeman says there are a few missing persons in the area, and they're not ruling out the possibility this could be one of them. They're also not ruling out foul play, yet.

But residents are still concerned.

"I was shocked, I was speechless. It's kind of crazy," said Hugo resident, Melissa Adams.

Bozeman says they should find out the sex, race and approximate age of the body within the next few days.

"The remains it seems they've been here a while, a few years, its unknown but I don't think that people have anything to worry about," said Bozeman.
