Hundreds donate to Families Feeding Families

DURANT, OK -- Hundreds of Bryan County residents ate a good meal and bought some handmade crafts Thursday -- all for a good cause.

Thursday was the inaugural Families Feeding Families "Empty Bowls" fundraiser. Dozens of volunteers handed out taco soup... Cornbread and dessert for visitors. There was also a silent auction with crafts donated by local residents.

The organization's founders say they wanted to raise awareness of hunger in our area. All the proceeds raised will go toward the food kitchen and ministry.

"Now we're into families. Now we see a lot more families, working families, they're just trying to make ends meet. Things are a lot more expensive and this, it's a necessity that, it's a way to meet that need," Tish Burkhalter said.

The Burkhalter's say the event was so successful so they're planning to make it an annual fundraiser.
