DENISON, TX -- With time winding down before Christmas, volunteers with Toys for Tots spent the day sorting and packing the final orders.

After the toys are picked up from collection sites, they're brought to the Toys for Tots warehouse, where they're packed up and sent off to non-profit agencies.

It's a lot of work for the volunteers. But for the kids who get the toys, all they see is the magic of Christmas morning."

Sarah Langford drove away with a bagful of toys Monday to bring to a close family friend.

"Times have been hard for this family, with the economy and everything. And he's a good man, hard worker, and he deserves this. And his kids deserve this," she said.

The drive collected more than 24,000 toys for the kids of north Texas.

At the warehouse they're sorted and stored until orders come in from local non-profit agencies.

"When the agency sends us their order in, we go around and we've got 10 2-year-olds. So we run around up and down the isles until we find the appropriate toys for that age group," said Debi Runnels, Toys for Tots volunteer.

Each kids receive 2 main toys, in addition to smaller "stocking stuffers" volunteers put into each order.

"I had a lady tell me one time, and she was probably in her 40s, that she still had her toy that she got from Toys for Tots. And she said 'I donate every year.' Because she knows what it meant to her that year," Runnels said.

Jacquie Stephens, Toys for Tots organizer, said that's what it's all about.

"We want Children to know they're cared for. And that's the best way to show you care for them," she said.

It's a sentiment felt by Sharon Sutherland, who's bringing Christmas presents home to her two young grandkids - who she said aren't expecting anything.

"Oh it's heaven. It's God's gift to us. And it's a relief. Christmas means all about family, and Christmas is really all about children," she said.

And it's all thanks to the generosity of Texomans.

"And that means a lot to us," Sutherland said.
