LOVE COUNTY, OK -- Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers have released the identity of two people killed in a crash after a SUV rear ended a semi truck on Interstate 35 near Thackerville Monday evening.
According to the report, the driver, 42-year-old William Ray Smith, and his passenger, 42-year-old Marcus Dwayne Smith of Dallas, were pronounced dead at the scene after the 2011 Kia Sorrento crashed into the back of a semi truck at a high rate of speed.
The report says the accident happened right after 9 PM Monday night near mile marker nine on I-35.
Witnesses saw the vehicle traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour on the highway.
The report says, when the Sorrento came upon two semis in the roadway, combined with the high speed and traffic conditions, it rear-ended a semi.
The report says the passenger in the backseat was flown to a Plano hospital for arm injuries and was released.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
Troopers are still investigating the crash but do say speed played a factor.
