Improvements to Bryan County Jail underway

BRYAN COUNTY, OK -- Renovations to improve the safety and security of the Bryan County Jail are now underway.

Sheriff Bill Sturch says they are adding about 80 more beds to the jail to relieve overcrowding along with adding more surveillance cameras for extra security.

Sturch says right now the jail holds about 60 people and about 50 inmates are being held in the Auxiliary jail.

After the work is complete Sturch says the jail will be able to house about 150 inmates and they will close the auxiliary jail.

"i think that this hopefully with the new sheriff that comes in this will be a blessing and something that in my nearly 20 years I never had. The jail has always been a nightmare." Sturch said.

Sturch says the project should be finished in about seven months.
