Inaugural Manik Stock mud bog and music festival in Powderly

POWDERLY, TX - Kids of all ages, the young and young at heart, got their chance to play in the mud at the first Manik Stock mud bog and music festival.

"You would never think that those four wheelers and trucks would go some of the places they do, its unreal."said Manik Stock Organizer Mic Manik. "Some of the four wheelers out here absolutely swim."

Organizers Mic Manik and Kimberly Moore got the idea while attending a similar event in Atlanta and thought this was something they needed to bring back home.

"Other towns around us have this kind of thing going on and we decided it was time for our community to have something like this." said Moore.

Around 500 people were in attendance on the first day, July 4th. ATVs got into the action today with mud drag and mud cross. Saturday the trucks get involved with the big competition, the bounty hole.

"It's basically a big hole and if you have a truck big enough and bad enough to make it through it, you win a $1,000, its that simple." said Manik.

Spectators and riders are glad to see this type of event come to the area.

"It's awesome, we're having a good time out here." said festival attendee Jason Parnell. "A bunch of four wheelers riding and getting muddy and everybody just having a good time."

"I think we're having a blast, there's lots of mud, tons of things to do. It's a good time." said ATV competitor Josh Shelby.

26 bands are playing during the festival, with Blacktop Mojo headlining tonight and Parker Heights Saturday night. A portion of the proceeds are going to the local VFW.

Manik says he hopes the festival catches on so it can become an annual event.

"Like I told the everybody on stage last night, we did this for everybody else." said Manik. "This is not something we are going to get rich on, this is for the people."
