Lake Texoma stays busy over long holiday week

LAKE TEXOMA-- People are packing up their campers and boats and heading home from Lake Texoma.

Cheryl Payne drives three hours to Lake Texoma every year to enjoy their favorite activities.

"It's clean water, the guys love the fishing, they caught a big one this morning, kids love it, they ride their bikes, and it's peaceful."

Payne and her family were just some of the 2,000 campers at Eisenhower State Park this weekend. Paul Kisel, the park superintendent, said since June 30th there has been a steady flow of visitors.

"A lot of them came before, a lot of them stayed after, so we were, it was just a hectic and busy nine days stretch here on Lake Texoma."

One business that lives and dies by the lake are striper guides. Chris Stevens, with "Striper Pro," said this summer is making up for last year's slow business. He has taken a guided fishing trip on the lake everyday since March.

"It’s picked up probably two or three times busier than it was last year. Last year was really slow for everybody, this year it has picked up tremendously, people coming from different states and the lake has been open for business and it's really, really good."

And businesses said they expect business to only get better.

"You have memorial day weekend, 4th of July, and Labor Day. And Memorial weekend came on strong and it was awesome. And then 4th of July came and it was awesome, so we look forward to Labor Day weekend," Kisel said.
