LAMAR COUNTY, TX-- Outdated cell doors at the Lamar County Jail are raising concern with law enforcement.
Sheriff Scott Cass says, he recently had to remove inmates from eight cells due to the locking mechanisms not working properly on the doors.
Sheriff Cass gave commissioners an estimate of $54,000 to replace the locking mechanisms in those 8 cells, or $250,000 for all 24 cells. The eight doors have been repaired but will continue to go through testing before inmates are moved back in.
Commissioners are currently reviewing bids and will revisit the issue at a future meeting.
