Large amount of drugs seized prior to distribution

McALLEN, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a routine investigation has yielded the largest drug seizure in the history of one South Texas police department.

Police announced Tuesday they confiscated 116 pounds of cocaine and 47 pounds of pure heroin from a McAllen apartment. Authorities arrested 20-year-old Jose Rolando Ocampo, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. He was charged with one count of possession of cocaine and one count of possession of heroin. His bond was set at $1 million.

The heroin was packaged in bricks and designated for distribution elsewhere. Police Chief Victor Rodriguez says it's rare for investigators to find pure heroin, particularly in the volume found Monday.

He says the bricks had stickers of various superheroes. Each superhero represented a city where the heroin was to be sent.
