POTTSBORO, TX -- More than $50K worth of high-end marijuana is off the streets tonight, and a major growing operation in the community of Preston is shut down. But, residents say more needs to be done, and As Morgan Downing reports, they're taking matters into their own hands.
Inside this home off 289 in the Preston community -- just north of Pottsboro -- investigators discovered a substantial marijuana growing operation.
"There was a growing system, ventilation system inside the house," Lt. Mike Eppler said.
Denison and Sherman Narcotics officers seized nearly 50 marijuana plants in different stages of cultivation, $50,000 worth of the drug, two guns and more than $30,000 cash.
Kenneth Bledsoe and Ryan Urbanski have been arrested for possession of marijuana over 5 pounds.
Lieutenant Mike Eppler says more charges could be filed.
"Now, right at this point it's still under investigation and we'll be gathering further information and may have some more details about other involvement," Eppler said.
The illegal activity has residents in the small community on edge.
"I'm extremely concerned about that, and the safety of our neighbors," Elaine Brown said.
"Everybody knows there's probably more going on out here than what they just found," J.B. Webb
Longtime residents J.B. Webb and Brad Hensley say because their lakeside community is outside city limits, without it's own police department, crime has always been a concern.
That pushed them to start a neighborhood crime watch program.
"We would like our neighborhood to be a better place to live and that's what we strive for," Hensley said.
Signs are up and residents watch out for each other. But, Elaine Brown says they can't do it alone.
"I would like to see more patrols. I have not seen any officers patrolling this neighborhood," Brown said.
