SHERMAN, TEXAS -- This is the third year for Sherman's Lights on the Lake.
People started pouring into Pecan Grove Park at 6 p.m. The Oliver White Band and Spur 503 took the amphitheater's stage at 7 p.m. Fireworks began around 9:30 p.m.
People there say that amidst the fanfare, they're remembering to be thankful for our freedom.
"Two hundred thirty six years ago today, they signed a little piece of paper that's largely responsible for the freedoms we enjoy today," Lights on the Lake attendee Jim Vidmar said.
