Local nonprofit receives sizeable donation from Dallas fundraisers

SHERMAN, TEXAS -- A downtown Sherman nonprofit received a big Christmas donation today.

Dallas fundraisers dropped off a hundred toys and more than four thousand dollars at Upscale Thrift this afternoon.

The thrift store operates a ministry that supports Texomans in need.

The funds were raised at a Dallas event, called the Dragon's Halloween Ball.

Event coordinators select nonprofits each year that they'll support at Christmas. This year, they chose Upscale Thrift and its corresponding ministry, Whosoever Will Outreach Ministries.

"I love this and it brings, it chokes me up every time we have people that come out and share their time, energy or whatever support they have. It's amazing to see the community get together," Dan Luna with Dragon's Halloween Ball said.

"We're real excited. This is such a huge, huge blessing. I'm brought to tears, really," Upscale Thrift owner Jackie Holland said.

Upscale Thrift is continuing to collect toys, blankets and coats for those in need. They are located at 217 E. Houston St. in downtown Sherman.
