Local volunteers put on standby

DENISON, TX-Texoma Red Cross volunteers have been put on standby to help if they're needed on the east coast.

Executive director, Jim Durham, said they may be sent out by the end of the week and their emergency response vehicle is ready to go.

"We're always on the ready. In the past several years, we've seen a lot of hurricane response in this area just from people coming into the area for shelter so it's nothing new," he said.

Durham said they have been getting calls all day asking how they can help and he said it's best to donate at the American Red Cross website.

If you're an AT&T wireless customer, you can make a $10 donation by texting to the following non-profit organizations:

• REDCROSS to 90999 to support the American Red Cross

• STORM to 80888 to help the Salvation Army

• HUMANE to 80888 to give to the American Humane Society
