Convicted murderer escapes Atoka Co. prison

STRINGTOWN, OK -- Atoka County authorities are searching for a convicted murderer who escaped the Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown on Monday morning, an Oklahoma Dept. of Corrections spokesman said Tuesday.

Prison officials last saw 29-year-old Jason Bales at 7:15 Monday morning. Oklahoma D.O.C. spokesman Jerry Massie confirmed Tuesday morning that Bales is not in the facility and has escaped. Authorities alerted the public he could possibly be in the area.

Bales is serving a life sentence without parole for first degree murder. He was convicted in 2007 for the 2006 murder of his girlfriend's mother, Stephany Glass, who authorities say was strangled before her body was covered in acid and buried in a shallow grave in southwest Oklahoma City. He's also held on burglary and arson charges.

Bales is described as a white male, approximately 6 foot tall and weighs around 200 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes. He was last seen wearing grey pants and a white shirt.

Bales should be considered armed and dangerous.

If you see Bales, contact local authorities immediately.
