SHERMAN, TX - Sunday, we first reported on a brutal sexual assault in Sherman. Now, we've learned more about the incident, and the alleged attacker. News 12's Daniella Rivera reports on how police were able to catch the suspect so quickly.

Sherman Police say the 500 block of Old Dorchester Road is now the scene of a brutal sexual assault.

"It's enough to scare the daylights out of you, knowing that something like that happened," said a woman who lives near the crime scene.

"She had several lacerations and some bruising on her body," said Sherman Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton of the victim.

Sgt Hampton says they received a 911 call just before midnight Thursday, saying a young woman in her 20's had been attacked. They learned the victim had been taken to a local hospital with injuries, "and after she was treated for those wounds she was taken to a Plano hospital for a sexual assault exam."

Sgt. Hampton says because the victim was able to give such a detailed description of the suspect, his vehicle, and the crime scene, they were able to collect evidence and make an arrest within 48 hours.

"She reported to us that it was an unknown Hispanic male," said Sgt. Hampton.

Police say they were able to obtain a warrant for a residence in the 1600 block of South Crockett street in Sherman, where they found more evidence supporting the victim's story, and arrested 25-year-old Alexis Yanez-Morin for aggravated sexual assault.

The woman we spoke to who lives near the site of the attack didn't want to be identified, but says incidents like this make her fear for her own safety, "It makes you very scared. It makes you worry a lot about what in the heck's going to happen next."

Morin's bond is set at $100,000, and he's being held in the Grayson County Jail on an immigration detainer.

The victim in this sexual assault case had to travel to the DFW area for an exam, which can be even more traumatizing for a victim. That's why three groups are working to bring these types of nurses to Grayson County.

The Grayson County Crisis Center, the Childrens Advocacy Center, and Heritage Park Surgical Hospital are willing to provide the training and location in Grayson County for sexual assault nurse examiners to do these exams.

Heritage Park is hosting two informational sessions on Thursday, July 10th, at 3 and 5:30 p.m. for any registered nurses interested in joining the SANE program.

Heritage Park Surgical Hospital is located at 3601 North Calais Street, you can reach them at: (903) 870-0996
