Mannsville without a vol. fire dept. after chief's firing

MANNSVILLE, OK - Residents in Mannsville, Oklahoma, are without local fire protection after all but one of its volunteer firefighters walked off the job last night.

People who were at the city council meeting last night tell us Volunteer Fire Chief John Ruiz was fired during the meeting, which spurred a mass walkout by all but one of the 15 volunteers.

Firefighters we talked to say while the council cited Insubordination as the reason for terminating Chief Ruiz., they believe the action was the result of personal difference between Ruiz, who is also a Dickson police officer, and a city official.

Officials say right now any fire calls will be taken by the Ravia Fire Department about 15 miles away.
