DENISON, TX-The name of the man accused of stabbing another man at a Denison home Tuesday night has been released as new details surface about what led to the violence.

What police said started as a lover's quarrel Tuesday night between 31-year old Kevin Venega and his ex girlfriend, ended with a the woman choked and another man stabbed.

"We determined that the suspect asked an ex-girlfriend to come inside a house and talk to him and he thought she was seeing someone else, had a relationship with someone else, so he allegedly assaults her then chokes her," said Denison Police Lt. Mike Eppler.

The woman was able to get away from Venega and ran down the 500 block of Murray Street asking for help. Steven Landis saw it all unfold from his front porch.

"This girl was running across the street hollering and I guess she came over here and got the people. And they came back out and her and her baby daddy were fighting and arguing and one guy tried to stop it," he said.

Eppler said another neighbor tried to intervene, but ended up fighting with Venega.

"The suspect was allegedly struck a couple of times with a fist, but then he produces a knife and cuts the other man with a knife," he said.

Eppler said Venega was arrested on scene for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault family violence-- both felonies.

The man who was stabbed was taken to TMC with non-life threatening injuries and was released. The woman is also okay.

Landis said his neighborhood is usually quiet. He's never seen anything like this before and doesn't want to again.

"Ain't nobody got time for all that mess over there though, shoot, drama."

Venega is being held in the Grayson County jail.
