More than a hundred jobs coming to Texoma

DENISON, TEXAS -- The latest numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that since this time last year, more Texans and Oklahomans are employed.

In Texas, the unemployment rate improved from 8.1% in June 2011 to 7% last month.

In Oklahoma, the rate also progressed from 6.1% to 4.7%.

Now, one Denison company is about to help more Texomans land jobs.

"Well we were notified last week that CIGNA has picked up some business and they're going to bring it to this Denison location," Denison Development Alliance President Tony Kaai said.

A CIGNA spokesperson says that the insurance and health services company is adding 170 new jobs to its Denison location: 100 jobs in customer service and 70 jobs in claims.

"CIGNA's a great corporate employer here and we have a lot of residents in this whole region that are able to find a good job there," Kaai said.

If you're interested in working for CIGNA, but don't have experience in customer service or claims, Bob Rhoden with Workforce Solutions Texoma says, apply anyway.

"Even though someone might not have the particular experience that's exactly what they're looking for, if there's something that will transfer," Rhoden said.

Rhoden says transferable skills are really what employers are looking for.

"They're willing to do some training on other things, but they're also willing to look at other skills that you have that might transfer," Rhoden said.

Transferable skills boil down to...

"What we call work ethic. Will you come to work everyday? Will you be on time? Will you stay all day long and not leave and go home to sleep? That's what employers are looking for. Someone that will stay and do the job that they're paid to do," Rhoden said.

"It's a skillset that no matter what you do in life, you can always use it," Kaai said.
