DENISON, TX -- As the temperatures heat up Denison has a way for you to chill out. Friday night kicked off their "Music on Main" concert series.

Denison hit a high note when Mark Allen Davis took to the stage for this summer's first "Music on Main" concert.

"We just like it come down here and see friends and family," Bruce Laymance Sr. said.

"Just enjoy being among the people and they have some good music so I enjoy that too," Barbara Riley said.

However, music is not the only draw there are also plenty of good eats and opportunities to show off your creative side, like 7-year-old Natalie Ellis who came out Friday night to display her sidewalk chalk art.

"I got an award for being most creative and Chase Bank," Ellis said.

Main Street Director Donna Dow says it is an event for people of all ages that they are planning on making even bigger and better. She says next week they are going to start building a 37 foot wide stage that will sit in the southeast corner of Heritage Park.

"Kind of step it up a notch and it's also going to allow for a lot of different performances like we envision dance, and theater, and jazz band," Dow said.

Dow says they are hoping the new addition will not only bring in more performers, but add to a family friendly environment.

"We really are looking to make more family events so we want to enrich what we have and also you know the city is interested in improving the quality of life and this is integral in that," Dow said.

Music on Main will go on for eight more weeks. The event starts at 7:30 every Friday night at Heritage Park.
