New Tom Bean police chief sworn in

TOM BEAN, TX -- Earlier this week, Tom Bean's police chief of 8 years turned in his resignation, after an investigation into his conduct.
Now, the mayor says they've found his replacemment. We sat down with him to talk about his vision for the city's future.

"I saw an opportunity to help the community that I live in and I decided that this is where I wanted to be. It's history now, this is where we're at."

New Tom Bean police chief, John Hunt, was approached by Mayor Sherry Howard two weeks ago, offering him the position after former chief, Michael Webster, was put on administrative leave for a possible "dereliction of duties."

Howard says the internal investigation is over, but won't release any other details. Webster's since resigned, and Howard says she felt Hunt was right man to take over the job.

"I tell him several times that we're cut from the same piece of cloth, I don't know if you know what that means or not but we are," Howard said. "We come from old school. Honesty and integrity is very important in this type of job."

Hunt served as a reserve officer for Tom Bean until he was sworn in as chief Thursday night, and says he's hit the ground running.

"We've started a crime prevention program, we've already started an unofficial school resource officer program already and we've been a lot more public than we were in the past," said Hunt.

"I'm excited about his vision and we've been wanting to do this for a while and now I see our plan finally going into the makings," Howard said.

Hunt says he wants officers to be more involved in the community.

"I think the police department needs to be public. I think people need to be able to see us and they need to understand where we are and who we are and what we're gonna do for the city and that's what we're gonna do," said Hunt.
