FANNIN COUNTY, TX - One of two men wounded in a Dodd City shooting Tuesday afternoon has died. The Fannin County Sheriff's Office has not released the names of the two men involved, but say as of now they are not charging anyone with a criminal offense.
Fannin County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a double shooting at a Dodd City Residence on County Road 3200 Tuesday afternoon, and found two men with gunshot wounds.
Chief Deputy James Woods says they're still collecting evidence, but after their initial investigation, it appears one of the men was threatening to cause harm to himself.
"There was a struggle for the weapon, and two victims received injuries," said Chief Woods. When asked what those injuries were, he said, "One male subject had fatal injury to the chest, the other male subject had a gunshot wound to the leg."
Chief Woods says the man who received the chest injury was transported to Red River Regional Hospital, where he later died.
And the man who was shot in the leg was care flighted to a hospital in Plano. We're told he was released today.
"At this point in time we're continuing to gather information and continuing to conduct interviews," said Chief Woods.
He says they'll attend the autopsy, and continue to collect evidence, but at this point in time they are not charging anyone with a criminal offense, "However we will be continuing to process evidence and going through and seeing, and we will follow what the evidence shows."
The Fannin County Sheriff's Office says they expect to release the names of the two men Wednesday.
We'll continue to follow this investigation and bring you more information as we get it.
