PARIS, TX-- The city of Paris has a new mayor and mayor pro-tem.
District 5's Matt Frierson was elected as mayor of Paris with a 4 to 3 vote, replacing Dr. A.J. Hashmi who served as mayor for the past three years.
Dr. Richard Grossnickle, who represents District 4, was unanimously chosen as mayor pro-tem. Also at Monday's meeting, four council members were sworn in. Two of them are new members.
Frierson says he is very honored to be mayor and hopes to continue Paris' success.
"What I hope to do is to really promote the clarity of everything in the plan of what the city is to be," said Frierson. "Then continue to push those focus items as we go through."
Frierson, Dr. Grossnickle, and Dr. Hashmi have one year left in their two-year terms.
