New mayor elected in Whitewright

WHITEWRIGHT, TX -- For the first time in more than a quarter century the city of Whitewright will have a new mayor.

City councilman Allen West won the mayoral race this weekend by a vote of 100 to 15 over incumbent mayor Bill Goodson, who served for more than 25 years.

West has lived in Whitewright since 1997 and has served on the city council for a number of years. West says he ran on a platform of change.

"I thought it was time for maybe a different outlook on the city aspects. It doesn't hurt sometimes to get in a different ideal."

West says one of his first priorities is fixing several city streets. He will be sworn in on Thursday.
