DENISON, TX -- Nearly 200 men and women are pushing their bodies to the limit at the North American Strongman National Championships in Denison.

The competition kicked off Friday at Smitty's Bar and Grill and ends Saturday evening. Each day the strongmen and women compete in four different events. Smitty's owner Chad Smith says competitors lift anywhere from a couple hundred pounds to 1,000 pounds.

"It's the top amateurs in the nation competing for their pro card," Smith said.

"One of the events we're doing is a car dead lift. We have 60 seconds to lift a car up as many times as we can. Another event we have to do is a wheelbarrow. We take kegs from 75 feet bring them down put them in the wheelbarrow, take the wheelbarrow back. It's very taxing on the body," Alan Colley, a competitor from Florida, said.

America's Strongest Woman will also be named at the event.
