PARIS, TX -- Hundreds came out Wednesday afternoon to celebrate James Dawson's retirement as North Lamar ISD's Superintendent.

Dawson announced his retirement at a board meeting in April. He has worked in the North Lamar school district for the past 26 years, 25 of those as superintendent.

He says in his 48 years working in education, he has seen a lot of changes and it's time for someone else to take over at North Lamar.

"I think we have a good school and a lot of good staff and a lot of good kids," said Dawson. "Its been my joy to be surrounded by so many good people that have been so kind to me."

Dawson says he will attend graduation on Saturday, a Rangers game on Sunday and then after that he has no other plans.

He plans to still live here in Paris.
