North Texas Municipal Water District turns on the pumps at Lake Texoma

LAKE TEXOMA -- For the first time since 2009 water is being pumped from Lake Texoma and transported through a closed pipe system to the Metroplex.

North Texas Municipal Water District authorities say water will flow from the Texoma pump station to a treat treatment plant in Wylie.

From there it will feed into Dallas area suburbs.

While Lake Texoma water levels are at their lowest levels since the 1970's they say the pumping process will reduce elevation by less than a foot.

A spokesperson says in the history of the North Texas Municipal Water District's use of Lake Texoma they have only used up their yearly water rights once.
