ARDMORE, OK - Saturday the Oklahoma Blood Institute is holding a drive in Ardmore to celebrate the life of a fallen soldier.
For the third year in row donors can give blood at the Specialist Micheal "Pokey" Phillips memorial blood drive.
Phillips was killed by an IED while serving in Iraq in 2008.
The blood drive will be held at Mountain View Mall beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m..
Phillips' mother said they're having the drive because before joining the Army her son gave blood regularly.
"It's one of his legacies that we like to carry on and a way to remember how he lived his life, which is the most important part of Micheal's story is how he lived his life," said Angelia Phillips.
Phillips was a 2006 graduate of Ardmore High School and part of the Army's 101st Airborne Division.
