With temperatures cooling and fall setting in, highway officials warn drivers to be cautious of deer in the roadway.
According to the Insurance Information Institute, deer crashes cause around 150 deaths and more than $3.6 billion in damage a year.
OHP Trooper BJ Keeling said they see a lot more deer-related crashes this time of year, especially at night.
Keeling said fall is mating season and more deer are on the move.
He advises drivers to check road-side ditches, where deer like to feed.
AAA says deer can run up to 40 mph.
And Keeling said cars driving at night often spook the deer into the road.
"Sometimes they'll just run right up in front of you," he said. "Or they'll run right into the side of you. The main thing is just put your cell phones down, pay attention to the road, and be more alert."
The Insurance Information Institute estimates more than 1.6 million deer-related collisions happen each year.
Keeling said Oklahoma's high deer population means Oklahoma drivers should take extra precautions.
