OSBI investigating Ardmore PD in-custody death

ARDMORE, OK -- The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an in-custody death in Ardmore.

OSBI agents say around 7:00 Friday night Ardmore Police responded to a domestic assault call at an apartment in the 1100 block of Holiday Drive. When officers arrived they say 38-year-old Rondre Hornbeak's hands were restrained with a belt.

His sister and brother-in-law reportedly visited his apartment to check on his welfare and when Hornbeak opened the door he allegedly began assaulting his sister.

Hornbeak was arrested and upon arrival to the jail authorities say he was unresponsive. He was rushed to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We're trying to find out how he died and why he died. What we've done so far is interview numerous individuals who were there at the scene where Mr. Hornbeak was taken into custody by police officers," Jessica Brown, with the OSBI, said.

The medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy this week to determine Hornbeak's cause of death.

Ardmore Police called in the OSBI to investigate.
