PONTOTOC COUNTY, OK -- OSBI is investigating what caused the death of an inmate at the Pontotoc County Justice Center.

According to Sheriff John Christian, Tammy Jordan was found unresponsive in her holding cell at the Justice Center just before 9 PM Monday night.

Christian says Jordan was found lying on the floor when staff was putting another inmate in the cell.

She was being held at the Justice Center since Thursday after trying to escape detention from the ICU at Mercy Hospital.

Christian says there was no indication of foul play.

Sheriff Christian said, "When they took the female inmate into the cell they observed that Ms. Jordan was on the floor and appeared to be unresponsive. They checked and found a pulse and believed she had a pulse at that time."

Christian says they performed CPR until medics arrived but were unable to find any vital signs.

The body has been taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
