Okla. Ed Board approves release of school grades

By  |

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma State Board of Education has approved the release of letter grades for every public school in the state despite objections from parents and school administrators who say the grading system is flawed.

The board voted unanimously on Thursday to approve the release of the grades that score schools on an A-F system that was approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature in 2011.

Several superintendents and parents complained to the board that their input was not sought and that the grading system is flawed. Superintendents had proposed a different way of calculating increases in student test scores, which is a key component of the letter grades. But the board declined to accept the alternate proposal.
