Okla. House approves bill to ease driver's license renewal

ARDMORE, OK - A bill was approved Tuesday in the House of Representatives that will make it easier for drivers to renew their license.

Currently, Oklahomans have 30 days after their drivers license expires to renew it. If that deadline is not met, drivers must provide a birth certificate as proof of identification.

House Bill 1082 authored by Rep. Pat Ownbey would allow the expired license to be used as proof when renewing a license for a year.

Ownbey said the bill will save the Department of Public Safety both time and money. The bill will now move to the state senate.
