Okla. House committee passes proposal to ease drivers license renewal

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The House Public Safety Committee passed the proposal Wednesday to make it easier for Oklahoman to renew their drivers license.

Currently, if drivers in Oklahoma try to renew their license 30 days after it's expired they must provide a birth certificate.

A newly proposed bill would allow drivers to use an expired license as proof to get a new one, up to a year after the expiration.

Representative Pat Ownbey wrote the bill.

According to Ownbey, "A drivers license will be everything you need to bring it back in and get that renewal. So it's a very common sense bill, I think it'll help a lot of people in Oklahoma."

If the House Calendar Committee approves the bill, it will then go for a vote on the house floor.
