OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An Oklahoma Senate panel has approved several measures to allow judges, private investigators and public bus passengers to carry guns.

Six gun-related bills cleared the Senate Public Safety Committee Thursday and now make their way to the full Senate for consideration. All have already passed the House.

Republican Sen. Rob Johnson's scaled-back proposal to allow public bus passengers with gun licenses to carry concealed handguns also passed. Johnson says law-abiding citizens should be able to defend themselves. He pointed to incidents of bus-hijacking in recent years.

The House passed a broader version of that proposal that applied to all "public transportation."

The Senate committee approved other proposals to soften regulations on firearm instructors and expand gun-carry rights for private investigators and for judges to carry firearms with training.
