GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- Dozens of soldiers hit the water at Lake Texoma Saturday morning to do some early morning fishing.
The trip was part of the 4th annual "Operation" Welcome Home" event. About 80 soldiers from Fort Hood and Fort Sill were invited to take the weekend off and relax. Sixteen fishing guides donated their boats and services for the event and several businesses donated food and other items. Organizers say this is a way to give back to those who serve.
"A lot of things that these young men and women go through we have no idea, and so to be able to just say thank you I think is important for us to do that for them," Pastor at Georgetown Baptist Church, Bobby Hancock, said.
The boats took off at 7:00 a.m. and docked around 11:30. After a weigh in, the soldiers got to enjoy a fish fry this evening.
