PARIS, TX-- A 6th grader at Crockett Intermediate is giving back to the community, and HOPE to people battling cancer.
Helping Others Prepare effectively for cancer (Project H.O.P.E.) is what Madeline Petrikas is doing through her community service project.
Tuesday night was the grand opening of the first ever cancer resource center in Paris thanks to the generous donations made from the community.
Madeline says she got the idea after her teacher was diagnosed with breast cancer, and decided what better day to showcase her work than World Cancer Day.
"She thought it would be great if somebody could make an organized center, said Petrikas. "Where all the information can be and you can just go there and get information."
A wooden bookshelf is stocked with books and pamphlets designed for cancer patients and their loved ones at the Paris Library.
Madeline has also started a counseling group at her school and is writing a children's book about cancer.
