PARIS, TX-- Paris Junior College's new head women's basketball coach is eager to get started one week after accepting the job.

Michael Madrid was selected as the head women's basketball coach at the Board of Regents meeting last week.

Madrid comes from Texas Women's University where he was the assistant women's basketball coach.

He says the college itself is what sparked his interest to become part of the lady dragon team.

"The opportunity to work with the kids daily and just be able to make a great impact on their lives and get them graduated and get them moved on to another university," said Madrid.

Madrid and his assistants will be hosting a girls basketball camp starting Monday.

He says it's a way for the community to get to know the new staff and get excited about lady dragon basketball.

The camp runs July 8-11 at the Hunt Complex for grades 6th through 11th.

Registration begins Monday at 8 A.M.
