PARIS, TX -- Hours after the Paris City Council held a special meeting regarding the status of the city manager, John Godwin received a heart transplant.

Godwin had surgery early Tuesday morning at UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas.

Paris Mayor and cardiologist, Dr. A.J Hashmi, says Godwin has a long road to recovery, but he is doing well.

Godwin, who is only 48, was said to be at the top of the list for a new heart.

Financial Director Gene Anderson is the acting interim city manager until Godwin can return.
