PARIS, TX-- Paris Police are warning residents about a phone scam involving a made-up county entity.
Police Chief Bob Hundley says, numerous calls have been reported during which the caller says they work with the Lamar County Summons Division, which Hundley says is fake.
The caller then tells the victim they're a witness in an upcoming criminal case and asks for personal information including: your name, date of birth and social security number.
"All the reputable businesses out there know that identity theft takes place," said Chief Hundley. "There's not hardly any reputable businesses that will even ask you for any of that information."
Authorities warn you to never give personal information over the phone.
If you have received any calls like this, call Paris Police.
