DENISON, TX & BRYAN COUNTY, OK -- It was a close call for a Denison Police officer involved in a chase this afternoon, and the suspect, still on the run tonight.
Police say the chase started when an officer tried to pull the driver over for a traffic stop.
"A vehicle initially stopped and then the driver took off and the officer was partially inside the vehicle," said Denison Police Lieutenant, Mike Eppler. "We went through many city streets and out on the highway and ended up in Bryan County, Oklahoma."
Eppler says the officer who fell out of the pickup was not hurt. He says the suspect led officers to a wooded area near Willifa Woods Road in Cartwright where he bailed out and ran off, leaving a passenger in the truck.
"We had three people in the vehicle originally," Eppler said. "One person got out while in Texas and the other person we have here, but we really don't know if there's any involvement with that person and what's going on other than just being a passenger."
Denison Police officers and Bryan County Sheriff's Deputies searched the area on foot with the help of a K-9 unit, and from the air with a helicopter.
Eppler says the suspect is described as a white man in his mid 30's. He was last seen wearing a blueish gray shirt and a black baseball cap. Eppler says he never displayed a weapon.
"We'll keep checking the area and try to locate him," Eppler said.
Police say if you see this man, please contact your local authorities.
