SHERMAN, TX -- The boys in blue took a break from patrolling, and hit the dinner table for some eating, all for a good cause.

The Sherman and Denison police departments took part in the first annual rib-eating challenge, to benefit a local charity.

"We are really pumped up to eat ribs. We've been waiting for this for about a week now. We've been preparing, testing, fasting. We've been fasting for three days, and stretching," said Sherman police, Greg Brummett and Kirk Buskirk.

"Of course, we think the Denison police department is going to win. We're out here for the Children's Advocacy Center. Texas Roadhouse put this on and we're glad to be here," said Denison officer Will Deering.

The two departments had to eat 5 ribs each, but each team had an anchor who ate an entire slab of meat.

The Sherman police department pulled out the win.
Event organizers say they hope to make the contest an annual event.
