POTTSBORO, TEXAS -- The uncle of Gabe Carter, the Pottsboro husband and father who died while fishing Lake Ray Roberts last weekend, is sharing memories of his beloved nephew.

"Gabe was just a wonderful, wonderful guy. He was just a genuine person, he genuinely liked people, liked what he did. Was an avid fisherman, hunter, liked what he did, like to be outdoors. Just a genuine person," Jeff Schneider said.

Carter's body was recovered from the lake Sunday after fellow fishermen found his boat adrift. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Schneider says Carter was a wonderful, genuine person who loved people, fishing, hunting and just being outdoors.

The family is hosting a fishing tournament at Lake Ray Roberts on October 19th to raise scholarship funds for Carter's 10-month-old son, Bowen. Contact Chris Davis at chris.davis@usabasstrails.com for information.

A memorial fund is also set up at American Bank of Texas.

Carter will be laid to rest Friday. Services are set for 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Denison.

A full autopsy report is not yet complete.
