SHERMAN, TX -- You just saw the drawing for the $550-million Powerball jackpot The winning numbers are:
5 23 16 22 29, Power Ball: 6
People have been streaming in and out of the Lone Star convenience store on Highway 75 and 82 checking to see if they won the $550-million prize. It's quite a different scene from earlier Wednesday as people lined up waiting to buy their Powerball tickets.
Employees here said they usually sell 100 tickets a day but Wednesday they sold about 300 Powerball tickets in just one hour! According to the Powerball website, your chance of winning the $550-million jackpot is 1 in 175-million but Texomans we talked to say they're optimistic.
People rush to get their tickets for Wednesday night's record $550 million Powerball drawing!
That's the second highest jackpot in US history.
Hundreds right here in Texoma have been lining up to get their shot at the prize.
The Sherman Exxon has already sold hundreds of Powerball tickets. And employees here say they normally sell about $100 worth of lottery tickets a day. But Wednesday, it was a much different story.
Rodney Conkleton has never played the Powerball before.
"Its so high so I thought I'd give it a whirl," said Conkleton.
And he's not the only one with Jackpot fever.
"Just wanted to get lucky," said Rodger Reeves, Powerball hopeful.
"It gets up the excitement. I figured I'd get one real quick," said Ron Brosch, Powerball hopeful.
"I stayed near the casino. That didn't work, so I figured let's try the Powerball," said Andrew Weddle.
But Conkleton has more than just luck on his side.
"I used my mothers numbers. You know the day she died and everything. Also I'm staying in her room tonight too. So all the dates and that's really why I'm getting at it," said Conkleton.
According to the Powerball website, the chances of actually winning Wednesday night's Powerball Jackpot are 1 in 175 million, compared to your odds of getting struck by lightening which are just 1 in 3 million.
"If I win I win, but nahh I doubt it," said Conkleton.
Back in March, the U.S. saw its highest jackpot at $656 Million for the Mega Millions prize. And turn out was high for that as well.
This time around, in just one hour at the Sherman Exxon station, there were more than 300 sales of the Powerball Jackpot tickets.
Across the U.S., more than 130,000 tickets a minute were being sold.
But that doesn't stop some Texomans from thinking they have the winning one.
"I hope so, I'd just like to get a piece of it," said Reeves.
"They're all winning until the drawing," said Brosch.
"I'm just excited. Hooray, for real too," said Conkleton
