GRAYSON CO., TEXAS -- Country music singer Randy Travis pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in a Grayson County courtroom this afternoon. That charge stems from his arrest near Tioga back in August 2012.

He's sentenced to 180 days in the Grayson County Jail, probated for two years.

He'll also have to pay a $2,000 fine, go to an in-patient alcohol treatment facility for a month, complete 100 hours of community service and have an ignition interlock device on his vehicle for two years.

"First I'll say thanks for the courtesy of the court here today and to the two patrol men for obviously taking care of me that night. Met them today for the first time. Thanks also for the concern and the words of encouragement across the country as we continue to travel. I'm glad it's behind me. I'm looking forward to getting on with the year and playing some music," Travis said.

He will not be charged with the felony offense of retaliation.

The judge also decided to destroy the trooper's dash cam video that captured Travis's arrest.

Country music superstar Randy Travis pleaded guilty Thursday afternoon to driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to two years probation and 30 days in a treatment facility in a Grayson County courtroom.

Travis, who resides in Tioga, was sentenced to 180 days in jail, probated for 2 years, and was ordered to pay a $2000 fine. Travis is also ordered to attend an in-patient alcohol treatment facility for at least 30 days, and he must complete 100 hours of community service. Travis will have an ignition interlock device in place on any vehicle he drives for the 2 years of his probation.

As part of the plea, Travis won't be charged with Retaliation, a felony, for which he was arrested on August 7, 2012. Travis was found naked, lying in the roadway in rural western Grayson County after crashing his1998 Trans Am in a construction area. Troopers determined he was intoxicated at the scene. Travis was belligerent at the scene and during transport to a local hospital, but did not make physical contact with any responders. Travis blood was tested by the Texas Department of Public Safety and contained .210 grams of alcohol per 100 milliliters.

“We feel it is appropriate in these circumstances. His punishment is considerably more than is typically received on a DWI case. First time DWI defendants are rarely forced into in-patient treatment. He will be unable to leave the facility for 30 days. His fine and community service requirements are more than double what is usually received, and his probation term is the maximum available, and longer than the usual 18 months. All of that is appropriate in light of his behavior with the officers. I spoke at length with the officers involved, and they were in agreement with the outcome. We are all hopeful that Mr. Travis is on the road to recovery,” Grayson County criminal district attorney Joe Brown said in a media release.

The charge against Travis, alleging that his blood alcohol content was above .15, was punishable by one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
