And with the fire of a gun the third annual Roundup Run kicked off in Marietta Saturday morning.
More than 200 runners raced through this course in Marietta to honor three area residents who died last year.
"We lost three vital young members," said run coordinator Marcia Miller.
Separate vehicle accidents claimed the lives of 18-year-old Raven Willis and 18-year-old Dannie Gares. 41-year-old Greg Lornes was killed in a work related accident at an Ardmore business.
Proceeds from Saturday's race--which is expected to be about $5,000-- will be divided among their families.
"Each family chose a different way to benefit the community," said Miller.
The Willis family is giving their money to the Marietta Softball Complex. The Lornes' are going to help fund a scholarship for Marietta High School, and the Gares' are donating the money to the cheer leading program at Turner schools.
Nathan Hickman was at the course just hours after he finished working a night shift. He said helping the community on a Saturday morning is worth the $25 entry fee and missing sleep.
"These things are for a good cause," he said."If you're in good health and you can do it, do it."
Miller said she's grateful for the community.
"This whole county is just heartfelt and all of us, anytime there's a need, we come together," she said. "So it's just one of the ways that we have."
Awards were handed out for first through third place and to the top three finishers in each age category.
