DURANT, OK -- The group Save Lake Texoma held a public meeting in Durant Friday night in an effort to prevent hydropower generation at the lake.
Several people gathered at the Holiday Inn to voice their concerns about Lake Texoma's low water levels. Executive Director of Save Lake Texoma Stephen Willis says the group wants residents to stand with them and demand an emergency moratorium on hydro-power at the Denison Dam. Wills says right now they are not generating and the group wants to ensure it remains that way while lake levels are low.
"What we're doing now is asking them months in advance to find alternate source of energy so when the Fall comes they can continue this temporary moratorium on hydro-power and leave our lake alone," Willis said.
