ADA, OK -- The City of Ada is paying former city manager, David Hathcoat, to keep details of his resignation quiet.

Hathcoat served as Ada's city manager for 16 years before resigning on Tuesday. According to a severance agreement obtained by First News, the City of Ada and Hathcoat are to refrain from making any public or even private comments about Hathcoat's resignation.

That agreement also states that Hathcoat will be paid 8 months' salary. It has been reported his salary last year was about $109,000. The city said agreeing to pay officials after they have left their position is not uncommon.

City attorney Frank Stout is serving as the active city manager. A new interim city manager will possibly be named at the next council meeting on February 21.
