Sherman Announces Changes in Downtown Traffic Pattern

SHERMAN, TX -- As part of Sherman's Downtown Streetscape Project, the traffic pattern around Grayson County Courthouse will permanently change to a one-way, counter-clockwise direction beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Traffic will then flow northbound only on Travis Street between Lamar and Houston Streets, and southbound only on Crockett Street between Houston and Lamar Streets. Motorists are urged to use caution and law enforcement will be on-hand as these changes are implemented.

Streets around the courthouse square will be closed the evenings of Wednesday, November 7 through Friday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. and will reopen each morning at 7:00 a.m. as crews prepare the roadway for restriping. No striping will be placed which would conflict with the existing traffic pattern until the Friday evening closure. At that time, traffic signals southbound on Travis Street at Lamar Street and northbound on Crockett Street at Houston Street will be turned off and one-way signage will be permanently displayed.

Construction of Sherman's Downtown Streetscape Project began in July 2012 with partial funding from a grant administered by the Texas Department of Transportation. The Downtown Sherman Preservation & Revitalization nonprofit group plans to plant trees as a final phase of the improvements before Thanksgiving.
